Greater Phoenix Leadership to Convene Stakeholders for the Development of a Sustainable, Long-Term Plan
Greater Phoenix Leadership and other leaders from the business community recently announced a focus on leading an effort to convene private, public and policy sector leaders to develop a comprehensive education game plan to address student academic achievement gaps and racial inequities that exist within Arizona’s education system.
While important programs and policies have been passed in recent decades moving our public education system incrementally forward, many of them have expired or face funding cliffs in coming years that would stifle the progress of our education system, critically impacting student attainment and performance.
“The time is now for business and community leaders to expressly call for a comprehensive education game plan for Arizona students and families,” said GPL Chair Michael Bidwill. “While inequities in our state’s education system have long-existed, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these inequities, further widening the achievement gap for our schools and students. Arizona Progress Meter data clearly shows we are not making progress fast enough.”
“Arizona’s business community accepts responsibility for convening leaders to develop a long-term and sustainable education game plan to address future needs in Arizona with regard to funding, accountability, access and innovation,” said GPL President and CEO Neil Giuliano. “We welcome conversations with all parties sharing our commitment to the creation of a comprehensive education game plan.”
Greater Phoenix Leadership will convene and lead a broad coalition of stakeholders to shine a brighter light on these inequities, examine key data, ask questions, and develop a sustainable and comprehensive plan for students, families and the future of Arizona.
